What is the Women’s Run?
The Montana Women’s Run is recognized as the largest running event for women in the state of Montana, and one of the largest all-women’s races in the country. It all started in 1982 with just 200 registrants and, as of 2017, has grown to over 8,500 runners and over 400 volunteers!
When is it?
This year’s race is on Saturday, May 12, 2018. To register, visit: https://runsignup.com/Race/MT/Billings/MontanaWomensRun
We heard that the race is a fundraiser. Where does the money go?
The Montana Women’s Run promotes health and fitness for women of all ages through exercise and education and encourages an active lifestyle. In 2017, a total of $92,000 was donated to five worthy causes:
• YWCA, $36,000
• Billings Clinic Foundation, $27,000
• Billings YMCA, $18,000
• Rocky Mountain College Women’s Cross-Country Scholarship Program, $5,500
• MSU-B Women’s Cross-Country and Track Scholarship Programs, $5,500
With this year’s contributions, the Montana Women’s Run has donated over $1,157,500 to local organizations that promote women’s health and fitness.
Do local businesses support the race?
This race is made possible by many generous donors from the community. The major sponsors of the 2018 Montana Women’s Run are Billings Clinic, ExxonMobil, First Interstate Bank, Graphic Imprints, The Planet 106.7 and KTVQ.
Is the race for women only, or can anyone register to compete?
Anyone can compete, and they do! Each year we have around 50 men, thousands of women and many, many children join us to run. Everyone – any age, any ability – is welcome! Only females are eligible for awards.
What’s special about this year’s event?
The 2018 event is the 38th Montana Women’s Run. It is our honor to dedicate this year’s race to one of the original board members, Pat Jaffray, who lost her battle with cancer last year. This year’s shirt is based on her favorite design from 1994. We also started a virtual race, so that those who cannot make the trek to Billings can run with us, no matter where they are located.
